Burglars swipe €1.3 million in watches during high-end burglary

Jewelry thieves made off with 1.3 million euros of luxury watches in a brazen smash-and-grab robbery in the center of Maastricht Wednesday night. Two burglars made off with 150 watches from the Juwelier Burger on Platielstraat, and were apparently at large.

A video was posted on Facebook claiming to show the end of the burglary. Two people are scene climbing down a ladder at the scene of the crime, and then fleeing on bicycles.

Security camera footage obtained by L1 shows the robbers entering the building by ladder, using a heavy object to break the glass displays inside, then grabbing as many items as quickly as possible. Less than five minutes after entering the building they fled the store the same way they came in, through an office, ignoring the iMac and other equipment in the shop.

NOS reported that the store owner might offer a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the suspects' arrest.

Police said they would release more information on Thursday following the two-day Christmas holiday.
