Accident closes A28 highway in both directions at Assen
The A28 highway between Zwolle and Groningen is closed in both directions at Assen after a major accident involving four trucks. Traffic service ANWB expects that the highway will be closed until at least 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes, NU.nl reports.
According to the ANWB, the accident caused havoc on the road. One side of the highway is full of mail, which came out of one of the trucks. The other side is full of beets. Exactly how the accident happened is not yet known.
The ANWB advises motorists to detour via Heerenveen on the A7 and A32, or via Veendam on the A7 and N33. Rijkswaterstaat recommends detouring via Friesland.
The highway closure comes at a bad time. Autumn holidays start for schools in the central and north regions of the country today, so the roads are expected to be extra busy in the afternoon.
