Three large Dutch banks dependent on one cyber security firm: report

The three large Dutch banks - ING, ABN Amro and Rabobank - are largely dependent on only one company for cyber security against DDoS attacks. The cyber security firm in question is the American company Akamai, which counts 18 of the world's 30 largest banks as its customers, Financieele Dagblad reports.

The Netherlands' bureau for economic policy analysis CPB calls the strong position of one provider a dubious development in a Cyber Security Risk Report that will be published on Monday, according to FD. Aiko Pras, a professor of internet safety, also expressed concern. "American companies such as Akamai are gaining deeper insight into our payment transactions, while we lose knowledge", he said to the newspaper.

ING, ABN Amro and Rabobank deny that they are dependent on the American company, saying that they also use other systems.
