Boy, 11, caught driving a sports car

An 11-year-old boy was caught driving a sports car in Krimpen aan den IJssel during the early hours of Thursday morning. Two police officers noticed the car when they saw it driving over two crossings in "fits and starts", ANP reports.

When the driver noticed the police car behind it, he tried to switch seats with the passenger - while the car was still moving - but couldn't manage it. When the car came to a stop, the police found an 11-year-old behind the wheel.

As the child is under the age of 12, this will not go on his record. The passenger, who turned out to be the owner of the car, will face charges. In addition to letting a child drive his car, the police also found that the car was not insured and its periodic technical inspection, known as APK in the Netherlands, expired in 2007 already.

The police had a conversation with the boy's mother and the incident was reported to youth care.
