Dutch student's fatal fall was suicide, Thai police believe

A fall from a balcony in Thailand that cost the life of a 20-year-old Dutch student, was not an accident but suicide, the Thai police believe, AD reports.

According to the local police, the young man was confused by relationship problems when he jumped from the balcony of a 5th floor apartment in Bankok during the early hours of Monday morning. "A friend of the Dutch man told us that him and his girlfriend just broke up", police spokesperson Supasak Poriyanon said to the newspaper. "The victim was disappointed and drunk. His death was certainly not murder."

No signs of violence was found on the Dutch man's body, other than the injuries sustained in the fall, the police spokesperson said.

The young man went home with a transsexual woman after a night out. She told the police that she met him earlier that night in a bar.

"He cried ceaselessly and in my apartment too the tears flowed generously", she said to local media, according to AD. The Dutch man fell while she was in the bathroom. "When I entered the living room, the balcony door was open and he was gone."

The body of the Dutch tourist was found lying next to a parked car with a dent in its roof. The police therefore believe that the young man first hit the car. The young man died at the scene. He sustained a serious head injury and multiple fractures.

The father of the victim told AD that his son was on holiday in Thailand.
