Three arrested during search for drowning person in Rijn river

Three persons were arrested at the port of Wageningen on Wednesday. They are suspected of dumping a money exchange machine in the Rijn river. Fire fighters found the machine while searching for a drowning person, De Gelderlander reports.

Emergency services responded to the port around 4:30 p.m. after reports of a person seen disappearing under water near 't Stek. The fire brigade deployed a diving team, and a police helicopter circled the area for a long time. No person was found.

The searchers did find a pair of shoes, but these turned out to belong to a sailor working on a ship in the area. They also found the money exchange machine and took it out of the water. Three persons were arrested on suspicion of dumping the machine in the river.
