Netherlands counts 42,000 homes worth over €1 million
The number of homes in the Netherlands worth over a million euros increased by 37 percent to 42,300 last year - a new record for the Netherlands, real estate researcher Calcasa announced on Thursday, NU.nl reports.
The average price tag on one of these homes was 1.36 million euros last year. The average price per square meter was 5,300 euros. Over the past year these million euro homes' values increased by 9.2 percent, compared to an 8 percent value increase for all owned homes in the Netherlands.
The majority of homes worth over a million euros are located in the Greater Amsterdam region. This area counts 10,300 such homes. Utrecht comes in second place with 6,300, followed by the Gooi en Vechtstreek region with 4,950. All of the top 10 streets containing the most million euro homes are located in Amsterdam. Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht and Valeriusstraat are the top three.
The most expensive street in the Netherlands is in Wassenaar. Last year a home on Groot Haesebroekseweg cost 31 times more than a home on the cheapest street in the Netherlands. The average home value on the Wassenaar street was 2.48 million euros last year, while homes on Tholensstraat in Terneuzen cost around 80 thousand euros.
In 2008 the Netherlands counted 28,100 homes worth over a million euros. During the financial crisis between 2008 and 2013, that number dropped by 43 percent. At the low point of the crisis, there were only 16 thousand homes in the Netherlands worth more than a million euros.
