Young man, 23, found dead in Dommel river; second body in one week
A 23-year-old man was found dead in the Dommel river in Eindhoven on Sunday morning. Family members identified him as Nixon Kareth from Boekel to Eindhovens Dagblad. He is the second person to be found dead in the Dommel in less than a week.
Kareth went out with some friends in Eindhoven on Saturday night. At one point he and a friend went outside on Stratumseind and lost sight of each other, according to the newspaper. Around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, a passerby saw a man lying in the water near the Van Abbemuseum and told Kareth's friend about it.
The friend did not hesitate and jumped into the Dommel to try and help Kareth, but he couldn't find him. Firefighters rescued the friend from the water, and emergency services took over the search with divers from Den Bosch and Weert, a police helicopter and an air ambulance. Kareth's body was found a short time later.
The police believe that Kareth's death was an accident - there is nothing pointing to a crime at this stage, a spokesperson said to the newspaper. In order to "rule out everything", the police did a neighborhood investigation on Sunday and are looking at surveillance camera footage.
On Tuesday morning another man was found dead in the Dommel river in Boxtel. He was identified as a 57-year-old man from Boxtel. The cause of his death is still under investigation, Omroep Brabant reports.
