Schiphol flights getting back on track

After hurricane-force winds caused chaos at Schiphol on Thursday, the airport's flight schedule is getting back on track. Schiphol ended up canceling 320 flights on Thursday, on Friday 33 cancelations are reported.

Schiphol's website shows 21 canceled arrivals and 12 canceled departures for Friday. 14 departures are delayed at this stage. The arrivals is somewhat more of a mess, with 57 delays reported so far. A large number of flights also arrived earlier than scheduled.

Strong winds brought by a western storm forced Schiphol to suspend all flights for around 45 minutes. Air traffic gradually restarted around noon, and was almost completely up and running by 5:00 p.m.

In addition to disrupting air traffic, the storm also caused some structural damage at the Amsterdam airport. Roof plates blew free from the terminal building, causing the closure of the entrances of Departure halls 1 and 2. The roof of peer H was also damaged.
