Another apparent gay bashing case in Amsterdam; Man beaten after leaving subway

Another young man was beaten up by a group of people in Amsterdam, this time at a busy metro stop on Saturday. The victim, identified as "Xeverio", told his story to broadcaster AT5, saying the trouble started when he was headed to a party.

"I was completely soaked in blood and without seeing anything I run away for a while. My phone was also covered in blood and in order to call for help I had to wait for it to dry", Xeverio told AT5. The police reached him soon after his call. He was then brought to the hospital in an ambulance, together with his friends who had met him. They called his parents.

Xeverio said it began while he was on the metro when a group of men around 25 years of age started calling him "Homo" and "boeter", a Surinamese slang word for "gay". When he exited the metro at Wibautsraat he realized he was being followed. Although he accelerated his pace, the three men soon reached him and knocked him to the ground.

The perpetrators then kept on beating him, he said, telling him to shut up and ordering him to give them his watch, his bag, and his bracelet. While struggling to remove his bracelet, Xaverio said he was hit with across the head with a brick. The men then ran away and left him behind bleeding extensively.

"In less than half an hour I got to the hospital, to find my son bathing in his own blood", his father wrote on social media. An x-ray revealed no brain damage, and hospital workers released Xeverio after treating his wounds.

The next day Xeverio made a formal declaration of the crime to police. It was discovered that his credit card was used in a bar later that evening, and police reportedly asked for security camera images to help identify the suspects.

It is at least the second attack on a gay person in Amsterdam since the beginning of 2018. A 22-year-old man was beaten up in Amsterdam West on New Year's Day by a group of men who called him a "cancer faggot" and left him injured and with two broken teeth.
