Footballer arrested for kicking another player's head

A 40-year-old player for football club Victoria '03 from Oudenbosch was arrested for kicking a player for football club DSE in the head during a match between the two teams in Etten-Leur on Sunday. The victim was taken to hospital, Omroep Brabant reports.

The DSE player's condition is stable, a board member of the club said to the broadcaster.

The Oudenbosch footballer was arrested on suspicion of attempted aggravated assault. What exactly happened on the field is not yet clear. "We are dealing with conflicting stories", a police spokesperson said to the broadcaster. The police are investigating.

According to the DSE board member, the match was almost over when the incident happened. The match was immediately halted. At the time the score was 4-2 in the favor of DSE.
