Fog, slippery roads trigger code yellow weather warning

Motorists across the Netherlands should be extra alert when getting behind the wheel this morning. Visibility reducing fog, combined with slippery roads due to freezing, make for hazardous driving conditions. Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow weather warning for most of the country.

To the west of the Tilburg-Delfzijl line, there may be slick spots on roads due to wet areas freezing, according to the KNMI. The middle and southwest of the country may see some light snow this morning. Other parts of the Netherlands may also face slippery roads in the coming hours, especially on bridges and viaducts. In addition to that, the northwest, middle and east of the country may also see thick fog this morning.

Motorists are warned to adjust their speed, keep a safe following distance, and keep an eye on weather reports and warnings.

A very cloudy morning will clear up somewhat from the north during the course of the day. Afternoon temperatures will be around 4 degrees, according to the institute. Tonight temperatures will drop to -3 degrees Celsius.
