Woman dies on Amsterdam street; police investigate

A 27-year-old woman died under suspicious circumstances on the pavement of Djakartaterras in Amsterdam-Oost on Sunday morning. The suspicious circumstances around her death indicate that she did not die of natural causes, and an investigation was launched, the police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The woman was found seriously injured on the pavement around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday. Emergency services tried to resuscitate her, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene. According to the police, the woman had several serious injuries. A trace evidence investigation did not give any clarity about what happened to her, and the police call on witnesses to come forward.

The victim lived on the street where she died, according to Amsterdam broadcaster AT5. A neighbor was woken up by screams and called the police. "I woke up, then thought: maybe a student party. Fifteen minutes later I heard a scream that chilled me to the bone. I sat up in bed. I looked down and saw someone lying there", the neighbor said to the broadcaster.
