Dutch journalist arrested after covert Turkey-Greece border crossing

A investigative journalist for Dutch national broadcaster KRO-NCRV was arrested in Greece on Monday for entering a restricted military area on the border between Greece and Turkey without permission. Sakir Khader was released on Tuesday after appearing in court, the Washington Post reports.

According to the newspaper, the court imposed a suspended sentence of five months in prison against the Dutch journalist. He works for current affairs show Brandpunt. Three others were arrested with Khader, a German citizen and two Iraqis who have refugee status in Germany. They were also released after appearing in court on Tuesday.

KRO-NCRV was not available to comment to the Washington Post.
