Suspect arrested in Groningen shooting that left student paralyzed
On Monday a SWAT team of the Groningen police arrested a man suspected of shooting a 21-year-old student in the city, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. 20-year-old Azim A. was arrested in a home on Duindoornstraat in Groningen, the police announced.
Two other people, who were in the home with A., were also arrested. The police are investigating whether they were involved in the shooting.
The shooting happened on Korreweg in Groningen during the early morning hours of October 15th. The shooting left a 21-year-old man from Groningen permanently paralyzed from the waist down. The police believe that he was a random victim.
A. was on the run since the shooting. The police eventually released his photo and full name in an attempt to find him. According to RTV Noord, A. was arrested in a student apartment building that is virtually abandoned, with only a handful of students still staying there.
Two other suspects, age 19 and 20 years, were previously arrested for involvement in the shooting. They have since been released from custody, after investigation revealed that neither of them fired a gun that morning, according to NU.nl. The Public Prosecutor is investigating whether they can be charged with anything.
