"Agricultural terrorists" saw through 2,500 fruit trees

The police in Land van Maas en Waal in Gelderland are hunting for "agricultural terrorists" who've been harassing farmers in the area with vandalism for months. Over the past week alone, vandals sawed through over 2,500 fruit trees of a farmer in Altforst, RTL Nieuws reports.

The same happened earlier this year in Horssen and Boven-Leeuwen. Earlier this month a maze grower saw that nails were pushed through his plants and part of his harvest was cut down. Late last month, around 150 hay bales were destroyed in a meadow in Maasbommel. In total the vandals victimized around 10 farmers.

The affected farmers teamed up to offer a 10 thousand euro reward for information that leads to the arrest of these "agricultural terrorists", as they call the vandals. Residents of the area are asked to call the police if they notice anything suspicious.

As far as farmers' and gardeners' association ZLTO knows, this is the first time that farmers are targeted on such a large scale and so constantly, a spokesperson said to RTL Nieuws.
