Hurricane Ophelia: Amsterdam flights to Ireland, Belfast scrapped

KLM and other airlines scrapped a number of flights from Schiphol airport to Ireland and back for Monday. Hurricane Ophelia is expected to hit Ireland during the course of Monday morning.

Dutch airline KLM canceled a total of five flights between Schiphol Dublin and between Schiphol and Belfast. The airline will reassess the situation during the course of Monday and see if any further changes to the schedule are necessary. At this time all flights to Scotland are still going through as planned.

Irish airline Aer Lingus canceled one flight from Amsterdam to Dublin and one from Amsterdam to Cork. Ryanair also canceled a flight from Amsterdam to Dublin.

The Netherlands can expect much warmer than usual temperatures on Monday thanks to Hurricane Ophelia, with afternoon temperatures ranging between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius, according to Weerplaza. But Ireland has a much harder day ahead of it. The expectation is that Ophelia will hit the south coast of Ireland during the course of the morning, with wind power 11 (very strong storm) or wind power 12 (hurricane strength). Along with winds of up to 140 kilometers per hour, the hurricane will also bring lots of rain with it.

Scotland can also expect harsh weather.
