Bus crashes into Apeldoorn viaduct; seven hurt
Seven people were injured when a bus driving on a bicycle path and crashed into a viaduct over a bicycle tunnel in Apeldoorn on Thursday, NU.nl reports.
A spokesperson for the police told the newspaper that one person was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital in a trauma helicopter. Another was taken to hospital by ambulance. According to Metro, this was the bus driver. The other five injured were treated by paramedics on site and sent home.
The accident happened at Osseveld station. The bicycle path lies higher than the actual road, and as a result, the bus was too tall to pass under the viaduct.
Exactly why the bus driver decided to drive on the bike path is not clear, the police spokesperson said. To find that out, the police have to talk to the bus driver, and his medical condition did not allow that on Thursday night.
