Boy's lawyer to press slander charges in teen girl's murder case

The lawyer of the 16-year-old boy suspected in the death of 14-year-old Savannah Dekker, is pressing slander charges. The charges involve a photo of the boy appearing on Facebook with the text: "This is Savannah's killer", AD reports.

The photo appeared on social media this weekend, and was removed soon after. According to the lawyer, the police know who posted it.

The lawyer also told AD that she's had daily telephone contact with the suspected boy since his arrest on June 4th, and actualy saw him on most days. According to her, he is doing "reasonably well under the circumstances". This is his first time in custody, as well as his first contact with the law, she said. "The stay in restricted custody is in any case an incredibly difficult experience."

The lawyer called on the public not to jump to conclusions and not to take the law into their own hands. "My client and his parents also have the right to protection and respect of their privacy, no matter how sensitive the case is. This is a particularly complex and delicate matter."

Savannah Dekker dissapeared on June 1st after leaving her Bunschoten home. Her body was found in a watery ditch on a local industrial estate on June 4th. She had been killed in a crime, the police said. The 16-year-old boy was arrested later that day. According to the Bunschoten mayor, Savannah met him online.
