Subway station still closed as windy weather continues in Amsterdam

Tuesday's stormy weather is continuing in the Netherlands' coastal provinces on Wednesday. And like Tuesday, the weather is causing a number of public transit problems in Amsterdam today. A code yellow weather warning for strong winds is in effect for the coastal provinces and IJsselmeer area. Meteorological institute KNMI warns of gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour.

On Tuesday evening Amsterdam public transit company GVB closed down the subway station on Spaklerweg as a precaution, after the storm blew building boards onto the rail, Het Parool reports. The station is still closed. Subway trains are traveling according to schedule, just not stopping at the Spaklerweg Station. GVB deployed shuttle buses to transport passengers between the stations on Van der Madeweg, Spaklerweg and Amstel.

The ferry between Velsen Zuid and Velsen Noord is also not sailing on Wednesday morning due to the weather circumstances. And fewer intercity trains are traveling on the high speed line between Amsterdam Centraal and Rotterdam Centraal. Passengers should take about 15 minutes' extra travel time into account, according to NS. The rail company expects that everything will be back to normal around noon.

KNMI expects that the windy weather will last well into the evening.
