More chlamydia cases lead STD rise in Den Haag region

Chlamydia is a growing problem in The Hague and its surroundings, according to the Center for Sexual Health GGZ Haaglanden. In 2015 a total of 12.2 percent of STD tests done in The Hague region tested positive for Chlamydia, last year it was 13.8 percent. The proportion of positive STD tests, including all sexually transmitted diseases, also increased, from 15.4 percent in 2015 to 17 percent in 2016, AD reports.

A total of 11,083 STD tests were done in The Hague region last year. 17 percent of the tests tested positive for one of the five most common STDs - Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV and Hepatitis B. Most of the positive tests involved Chlamydia.

At the HMC Westeinde hospital in The Hague city center there is a center that gives free STD tests to people who are below the age of 25, work in the sex industry or are at high risk for STDs. The center keeps track of how many STD tests are done in the region and their results.
