Girl sells valuable family heirloom for €5 at King's Day flea market
An 11-year-old girl from Blokker in Noord-Holland accidentally sold a very valuable family heirloom at the King's Day flea market in Hoorn. The girl went to the flea market with her father to sell some things and afterwards told her mother that she sold "a painting with a lady on it" for 5 euros, RTV Noord-Holland reports.
"I thought: that's impossible, it's here in the attic", mother Astrid said to the broadcaster. She immediately went to check and found the painting gone. "All these years I thought I had the painting, but it was with my ex-husband." The girl's father thought that Astrid didn't want the painting anymore - because she left it with him - and gave it to daughter Amy to sell at the flea market.
The painting is a family heirloom Astrid got from her great-aunt. It was the only thing she had from her family.
Amy had no idea that she was doing anything wrong in selling the painting. "I sold it for 5 euros to two women. I think a mother and a daughter", she said to the broadcaster.
Astrid hopes the buyers will be willing to return the painting. "They will of course get their 5 euros back and a big bunch of flowers."
