Frost blankets King's Night for 1st time since '96; Drizzly King's Day expected

For the first time since 1996 frost blanketed De Bilt on Kings Night, according to weather agency Weeronline. And with minimum temperatures of -2 degrees measured at De Bit, this was the second coldest King's Night measured since 1949.

King's night was dry, fairly clear and really cold in most places. Only the coastal provinces saw some rain. Frost blanketed most of the country. The lowest temperature was measured at the Twenthe weather station, where it dropped to -3.4 degrees, a new record. That is the lowest temperature ever measured in the Netherlands on April 27th.

King's Day will be cold and drizzly. Maximum temperatures will range from 9 degrees along the coast to 12 degrees in the east and southeast. If temps stay below 10.7 degrees Celsius at De Bilt, this will be the coldest King's Day since 1985. The coldest King's Day since temperature measurements started was in 1970, when the maximum was 8.6 degrees.

Inland Netherlands will have the best weather this morning with some sunshine and no rain expected. The coastal provinces may have their morning festivities rained out. During the afternoon, the drizzle will move inland and the coastal provinces will have some sunshine.

Tilburg, which is hosting the official King's Day festivities today, will have a mix of clouds and sunshine while the Royal family is visiting. There is an increasing chance of rain as the morning progresses. Temperatures will be between 8 and 10 degrees during the festivities, but a moderate west-northwest wind will make it feel around 6 degrees.
