Dutch man arrested for 17 ATM bombings in Germany
The Dutch police arrested a 28-year-old Dutch-Moroccan in Utrecht last week in connection with 17 ATM bombings committed in Germany. The man was arrested based on a European arrest warrant. An accomplice is still on the run, NOS reports.
It is believed that this man is part of the so-called Audi Gang - a gang of mostly Dutch criminals who commit ATM bombings across the border in Germany and speed away in fast stolen cars, mostly Audis.
The authorities tracked down the suspect based on items found in a stolen car meant for an ATM bombing in May last year. It is believed the Dutch-Moroccan suspect worked with at least one accomplice. The police are still looking for him.
The German police called the arrest a good example of successful cross-border police cooperation.
