Numerous integrity violations triggers large scale corruption investigation at police, customs

Following a number of major information leaks and integrity violation cases in the Dutch police and other investigative agencies, a major investigation was launched into corruption at the police, the Telegraaf reports. The investigation was launched in September and is being performed by the University of Maastricht, the Open University and Avans Hogeschool.

Over the past years there were several corruption scandals in the police, customs in the port of Rotterdam and in the Safety and Security Service. The most recent one was uncovered last week. Faris K., a Safety and Security officer on the Geert Wilders team, was arrested on suspicion of leaking confidential information to criminals.

The major investigation was commissioned by the corps leadership of the National police. The investigators are looking at the nature and extent of the integrity violations and at the way in which organized crime is trying to influence the Dutch authorities. Results are expected this summer.
