Storm damage below €10 million: insurers

The storm that hit the Netherlands on Thursday caused less than 10 million euros in damage, according to the first estimates of the Dutch Association of Insurers.

"The exact amount of damage is not yet known, but it wil remain below 10 million euros", a spokesperson for the association said to newspaper AD.

Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code orange warning for very strong winds during the storm and traffic services warned of many expected problems. NS reduced the number of trains on Thursday so that more employees are available for dealing with storm related problems. And Schiphol warned of significant delays and canceled flights.

But while the emergency services did have their hands full during the storm, and Schiphol did end up canceling 175 flights, the storm caused much less problems than expected.
