Kickboxer Badr Hari gets 2 years in prison for assault on businessman

On Tuesday the Supreme Court sentenced kickboxer Badr Hari to two years in prison, 10 months conditionally suspended. The Dutch kickboxer was found guilty of various assaults, including that of now deceased businessman Koen Everink at Sensation White in Amsterdam in 2012. After Hari's time in custody is subtracted from the sentence, he still has to spend about 6 months in jail, NU.nl reports.

The Supreme Court upheld the previous ruling by the Amsterdam court of appeals. In October 2015 the Amsterdam court sentenced 32-year-old Hari to two years in prison, 10 months of which conditionally suspended. He also has to pay 45 thousand euros in damages. The court found Hari guilty of assaulting Everink. The other suspect in the case, Ferhat Y., was acquitted. Hari filed an appeal against the ruling with the Supreme Court.

According to the court, Hari had motive for assaulting Everink because the businessman had insulted Hari's then girlfriend Estelle Cruijff. Hari claimed that he only hit Everink once, but the court found this implausible.

Everink was found stabbed to death in his home in March last year. The main suspect in his murder is Mark de J., coach to tennis player Robin Haase. Hari is not a suspect in this case.
