Sex with patient leads to suspension of Eindhoven GP's license

A doctor in Geertruidenberg, Eindhoven had his GP's license suspended for six months after he had sex with a female patient. The suspension was imposed on him by the Regional Disciplinary Board in Eindhoven. The doctor's practice will be closed until July 3rd of this year, Omroep Brabant reports.

The woman filed a complaint against the doctor because she believes he used her to bring new life into his existing relationship. The woman had her first appointment with the doctor in October 2015. At her second appointment she inquired whether he was single. They exchanged a number of sexual texts and phone calls, followed by actual sex at the woman's home. The doctor claims the woman blackmailed him.

"Sexual contact between doctor and patient: it is not allowed, it is never allowed" is a guideline that always applies for doctors, the Disciplinary Board ruled. The doctor should have known better.

The Board also questioned the doctor's defense that the relationship lasted longer than he wanted because the woman blackmailed him. The Board deemed it "unbelievable, given the content of WhatsApp messages between the two parties."
