Arson investigated in Amsterdam Sloterdijk train fire; Haarlem trains delayed

The police are investigating whether arson was involved iin a fire on a train at Amsterdam's Sloterdijk station on Wednesday night. The fire was relatively quickly extinguished, but did delay train traffic between Sloterdijk and Haarlem for hours afterwards.

According to the Telegraaf, the train was on its way to Beverwijk, but stopped in Sloterdijk when smoke was smelled. All passengers got out of the train unharmed. The train was then moved to outside the station, about 200 meters away, where firefighters got to work extinguishing the fire.

Unconfirmed sources told the newspaper that the fire started in the bathroom, where two boys threw something into the toilet.

The fire wreaked havoc with train traffic, with no trains traveling between Sloterdijk and Haarlem. Travelers faced more than an hours delay, despite NS deploying buses for affected passengers. Only around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday did the train traffic restart.
