Third convicted in 1994 murder also innocent, author claims

Ron P., convicted for the 1994 rape and murder of air hostess Christel Ambrosius in Putten, is innocent, according to scientist and author Ton Derksen. If this is true, P. is third man to be wrongly convicted for the young woman's death, Omroep Gelderland reports.

Ron P. was sentenced to 18 in years in prison for rape and murder in 2011. Before him two other men, Herman Dubois and Wilco Viets, were convicted, spent time in jail and the acquitted for the same case.

Derksen spoke to Omroep Gelderland about his new book, titled Onschuldig Vast or "Innocently Jailed" in English, which was published on Tuesday. In the interview he stated that Ron P. was not the one to kill Ambrosius. He said that he is investigating the matter and will reveal his findings in his book about this case titled Putten 2, which is set to release in the spring.

Ton Derksen is an emeritus professor of science philosophy. He has several book titles under his name, most concerning misconduct of justice.

Christel Ambrosius was raped and strangled to death in her grandmother's house in 1994. Two men were found and arrested in the vicinity - Dubois and Viets. The duo was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1995. In 2002 the case was reviewed and the two men were acquitted.

In the spring of 2008 Ron P. was arrested after his DNA - newly added to the police system after he was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend - matched a trace found on Ambrosius' body. P. always denied his involvement in her rape and murder, but was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in 2011.
