Police security boss resigns over critical report

The head of the Police's safety and security department DBB resigned on Wednesday after a critical report on unrest and discontent in the service surrounding the culture, work conditions and atmosphere there, NU.nl reports

The DBB specializes in personal security and safety. It protects members of the royal family and their visitors, politicians, diplomats and other designated persons. Officers working for the DBB were informed of the contents of the report.

Janine van den Berg, police chief of the National Unit, released a statement saying that the resignation of the head of the DBB was a joint decision. "The outcome of the report shows that change and reform are needed to become the organization we want to be. We agreed that with this new phase of further development other accents on leadership are needed. We can now start working on that", she said. She added that the report makes clear what is and what is not going well in the DBB. "The results of the report are part of the process to address the causes of unrest and discontent within the service."

"In addition to investigating signs of unrest and discontent within the departement, alleged breaches of integrity were also investigated. These reports were further investigated by the leadership. The unit leadership concluded that the bulk of these reports are unfounded. Where integrity violations did take place, those colleagues were reprimanded at the time", the police said.
