Netherlands launch action plan to reduce public transit violence

NS, public transporters, unions and government parties teamed up to set up an actioin plan aimed at reducing violent incidents on public transport. The intention is to reduce the number of incidents by 20 percent by 2018, according to the Telegraaf.

The plan includes improving the share of information about perpetrators, extra surveillance and extra security staff with additional powers, according to the newspaper.

"For that we will cooperate more closely among ourselves, but also with the police. It must not be allowed that perpetrators escape the dance. Those who commit crimes in public transport should expect a tit-for-tat approach." Connexxion director Juul van Hout said to the newspaper.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment confirmed the action plan to ANP.
