Samurai sword-wielding man shot by 's-Gravenzande police

A police officer shot an 18-year-old man in 's-Gravenzande on Saturday while arresting him for waving around a samurai sword on the street, the police said in a statement on Sunday. The police responded to reports of a young man acting strange on the streets and attacking an elderly man. Officers found him a short time later, samurai sword in hand, on Monsterseweg. The 18-year-old man refused to calm down and would not respond to the officers' instructions. A warning shot had no effect on him. One police officer shot at the man, hitting him in the leg. Police officers arrested the man and took him to hospital for treatment.
