Dutch dissatisfied with doctor consultations: survey

Some 40 percent of Dutch patients aren't satisfied with doctor consultations, according to a survey done by Patients Federation among 4,600 people, the Telegraaf reports. Many patients indicated that their doctor often gives them multiple treatment options. But 15 percent also say they don't feel involved in the decision on what treatment to go for. Patients Federation therefore teamed up with the federation of medical specialists, the Dutch association of hospitals and the Dutch federation of university medical centers NFU to launch a campaign called "Better healthcare starts with a good conversation". The aim is to make both doctors and patients more aware of the importance to choose treatment together. "Too often it is till one-way traffic in the communication between doctor and patients", Dianda Veldman of Patients Federation said to the newspaper. "In the situation of the patient it is important to be able to make a good decision together."
