Netherlands hands out €54.5 million to protect national landmarks

The State Service for Cultural Heritage granted a total of 54.5 million euros in subsidies to the owners of national monuments for their maintenance and conservation. The largest subsidies went to two important and historical churches, AD reports. The Sint Jan Evangelist church in Den Bosch received nearly 2.7 million euros from the subsidy pot. And the Eusesbuis church in Arnhem, which is always in need of restoration, received nearly 2 million euros. Other national monuments that received large subsidies include the seaside hotel and music hall Kurhaus in Scheveningen, which received almost 900 thousand euros. The Zeeland bridge got 900 thousand euros. Slot Zeist got about 650 thousand euros and Kasteel De Haar received 600 thousand euros. The abbey buildings Rolduc near Kerkrade received more than 500 thousand euros. And the Olympic Stadium and the Concertebouw in Amsterdam received subsidies of 400 thousand euros.
