Queen Maxima meets Indonesian president Widodo in Jakarta

Queen Maxima just completed a three day visit to Indonesia. On her last day she met with Indonesian president Joko Widodo to discuss new ways to give people access to banks and banking services, NOS reports. The Dutch Queen is working worldwide for inclusive finance, as people in developing countries often have no access to banking systems. Maxima believes that the poorest people in the world can improve their quality of life by having access to small loans and bank accounts. According to the Queen, Indonesia is booking progress in this field, focusing on modern financial solutions and online banking. She believes this a good solution for the vast archipelago, where physical banks are often out of reach. Currently 8 percent of Indonesians make use of technical innovations like online banking and two thirds have no access to banking services. President Widodo aims to have at least half of the population use banking service in three years times. The queen also spoke at a financial conference on new banking services and visited small businesses in the city of Bogor. She also met with the Indonesian Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank.
