Poll: Dutch have more confidence in Putin than Trump

The Netherlands has more confidence in Russian President Vladimir Putin as an international leader than in United States presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to a poll by Pew Research, which political analyst Ian Bremmer posted on Twitter. The poll was done to see how well Trump's campaign of "America First" is playing with the United States' international allies. "About as well as you'd expect", he writes on Twitter. And that is not very well at all. Most notable from the Netherlands side is that about 14 percent of the Dutch population has confidence in Vladimir Putin as an international leader, compared to 7 percent having confidence in candidate Donald Trump. For comparison: 91 percent of the Dutch population has confidence in current U.S. president Barack Obama, 83 percent have confidence in German Chancellor Angela Merkel and 76 percent have confidence in the other U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Trump himself is lashing out at the media for damaging his election campaign with negative publicity. "If the disgusting and corrupt media covered me honestly and didn't put false meaning into the words I say, I would be beating Hilary by 20%", he tweeted on Sunday. He also talks about the New York Times' "fiction" reporting and "anonymous sources and meetings that never happened" and climes that "Crooked Hilary Clinton is being protected by the media."
