Death threats against cop ends in arrest

A 48-year-old man was arrested on Hogezoom in Renesse on Saturday after he threatened a police officer with death, the police said in a statement. The man did not agree with the traffic fine his girlfriend received for driving on a closed road. The police officer and a colleague were cycling around Renesse's city center at 11:35 p.m. when they noticed a car driving up Hogezoom, which is closed to traffic between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. The officer cycled up to the car and signaled the driver to stop. Once the car pulled over, the officer told the woman that she was driving on a closed road and will be fined. The officer was writing out the fine when a passenger got out of the car and demanded that the officer cancel the fine. If not, the man said, he would cut the officer's throat. The officer recognized the man as a known violent perpetrator. He called for backup and arrested the man, with much verbal and physical resistance from the suspect. The officers called in for backup helped overpower the man and took him to the police station. The suspect is still in custody, facing charges of threats and insult.
