Dutch increasingly opting for specialty beer
While Pilsner is still the drink of choice for Dutch, beer drinkers in the Netherlands are increasingly opting for a specialty beer, according to the National Beer Survey. Four out of five Dutch sometimes order a specialty beer, mostly because they find it tastier, but also because they occasionally like something different, RTL Nieuws reports.
In total 30 percent of respondents indicated that they drink specialty beer on a monthly basis, up 4 percent from 26 percent in 2015.
Wheat beer is the most popular choice, with 36 percent of beer enthusiast opting for it. Strikingly, 30 percent of Dutch deliberately opt for non-alcoholic beer, because they like it better.
The majority of beer drinkers like to choose beer that "suits the moment", and in that mostly choose for a locally brewed beer.
