Schiphol grows to world's 2nd largest aviation hub

Schiphol is now the second largest aviation hub in the world with 4,633 direct flights a week, according to the foundation for economic research SEO. Only Frankfurt airport handles more direct flights per week, NU.nl reports. Although Frankfurt is 1st in the world with number of direct flights, Schiphol beats the German airport in number of passengers. In the first half of this year Schiphol accommodated about 29.7 million travelers, a 9.9 percent increase compared the same period last year. Frankfurt Airport saw its passenger numbers decline by 1 percent to 28.7 million during the first half of 2016. Schiphol expects to see some 63 million passengers traveling through the airport this year, a record for the Amsterdam airport.
