Eleven police brutality protesters arrested in The Hague

Eleven people were arrested in The Hague on Monday night during a protest against police brutality. All eleven were arrested for ignoring Mayor Jozias van Aartsen's instructions not to protest in Schilderswijk, the police said in a statement. The protest started at 5:00 p.mm at Holland Spoor railway station. It was held on the anniversary of Mitch Henriquez death. The Aruban man died shortly after being arrested at a music festival in the city. An autopsy showed that he likely died of strangulation after the police used a chokehold on him. From Holland Spoor the protesters marched to Zuiderpark. According to the police, this happened peacefully and without incident. Due to a call on social media to protest in front of De Heemstraat police station, the police repeated the Hague mayor's instructions to stay out of Schilderswijk. Eleven people ignored these instructions. They were arrested at various locations in Schilderswijk during the course of the evening. According tot he police they were on their way to De Heemstraat police station, "apparently with the intention to demonstrate anyway". All eleven suspects were arrested for violating the Law on Public Events. Official reports were filed against them.
