First ever Osprey hatches in the Netherlands

At least one Osprey, or fish eagle, hatched in the Biesbosch on Wednesday - a first for the Netherlands, according to the State Forestry. Ospreys usual only use the Netherlands as a stopover during their migration from Africa to their breeding grounds in northern and eastern Europe. But in May this osprey pair was discovered to be settling down in the Biesbosch. On Wednesday morning a State Forestry ranger notices that they Ospreys were restless in their nest, leading him to believe that they are no longer brooding, but feeding. "The young themselves have not been seen, but by the behavior of the parents, there are one or more youngsters in the nest", ranger Jacques van der Neut said. "Now we have to wait about three weeks for the young to be a bit larger, then we can see how many exactly there are." The immediate vicinity of the nest is no closed to the public and rangers will do extra surveillance around it, to give the Ospreys some peace. https://twitter.com/DeJongAlbert/status/737969206877163520?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
