Dutch find terrorism unavoidable in Europe; Support rises for PVV

Seventy percent of Dutch voters think that terrorism is unavoidable in Europe. They feel attacks can not be prevented, no matter what is done, according to the latest poll by Maurice de Hond. Following the suicide bombings in Brussels last week, anti-Islam party PVV is up 2 parliamentary seats in the polls. A massive 68 percent of voters now think that there is a big or very big chance of a terrorist attack in the Netherlands. After the attacks in Paris in November last year, only 56 percent of voters felt this way. 53 percent of voters stated that they feel less safe in places with many people than before the attacks in Brussels. There is a remarkable difference in the feeling of insecurity among voters for the different parties. A massive 77 percent of the PVV voters stated that they feel less safe. Among the current PvdA and GroenLinks voters, that was 21 percent. A total of 64 percent of voters want border controls on all of the Netherlands' borders, like it was before the Schengen agreement was implemented. Here too there are large differences among the parties. Once again the vast majority - 95 percent - of PVV supporters are for closing the borders. Voters for the D66 (28 percent), PvdA (27 percent) and GroenLinks (19 percent) are more hesitant about going back on the Schengen agreement.
