Populist politician killer wants probation restrictions lifted

Volkert van Graaf, the man convicted for murdering politician Pim Fortuyn, is in court again on Thursday to challenge a condition of his probation. He no longer wants to check in with the probation service every three months, the Volkskrant reports. This is the third time that Van der Graaf is in court to challenge probation conditions. Last month the court ruled that Van der Graaf no longer has to undergo mandatory treatment by a psychologist. The Public Prosecutor is appealing against that ruling. In 2014 Van der Graaf also managed to get rid of the ankle monitor condition. He was also granted permission to visit Rotterdam, Hilversum, The Hague, Tilburg and Krimpen aan den IJssel. Van der Graaf was conditionally released in May 2014 after serving two thirds of his prison sentence. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison for gunning down politician Pim Fortuyn on May 6th, 2002.
