Kids across Netherlands kick off national reading days

Kids across the Netherlands kicked off the 13th edition of the National Reading Aloud Days on Wednesday morning with breakfast and a story read to them by a politician, mayor, sports hero, actress, rapper, football player and even a princess. For this coming week elementary schools, day cares and institutions across the Netherlands will read more to promote reading among children. Some of the famous Dutch who did their part in reading to toddlers and kids to young to read for themselves on Wednesday morning include Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan, Home Affiars Minister Ronald Plasterk, D66 leader Alexander Pechthold, Development Minister Lilianne Ploumen, Public Health State secretary Martin van Rijn and PvdA leader Diederik Samsom.
