"Racist": Youths sorry for throwing baby formula at Chinese people

A prank video in which two young Dutch men throw cans of baby formula powder over unsuspecting Asian people on the Amsterdam streets, led to fierce criticism and claims of racism from internet commenters on Monday. Dutch baby formula is very popular among Chinese people after a scandal with baby formula in China in 2008. The poisonous substance melamine was discovered in a local baby milk powder product. Six babies died and about 300 thousand children became sick, resulting in Chinese mothers no longer trusting the local products.

The two pranksters behind the YouTube channel Vatos Locos Pranks offered their apologies on Facebook about a day after the video was first published. They removed the video from their YouTube channel, but it can still be found on other channels. One of the pranksters' mothers told Hart van Nederland that their family is being bombarded with threats after the boys' names were released on Facebook. "My son is very sorry, he did not think through the consequences. They really did not want this." she said. "We receive calls from people who swear at us. Even grandma received calls."
