End to free home delivery in sight, says HvA researcher
Hogeschool van Amsterdam lecturer Walther Ploos van Amstel sees an end to free package delivery in the near future. According to him, it costs loads of money and is an untenable situation, the Telegraaf reports.
According to Ploos van Amstel, getting the packages to customers is too inefficient. "A quarter of the delivery guys stands by the door for nothing because the resident is not at home", he sad to the newspaper. "That is unsustainable."
In recent months package deliverers also started making deliveries over weekends and in the evenings. And most supermarkets now also deliver groceries. This leads to more traffic on the streets and all the different delivery vans are very costly. Which is why Ploos van Amstel believes fast delivery by courier will soon cost money.
