Iceland repays last Dutch account holders in Icesave collapse

The last Dutch customers who are still owed money by Icelandic bank Icesave, will get their money back in the coming days, interest group for the victims Icesaving announced, NOS reports. Icesave collapsed in 2008 at the height of the financial crisis. The bank had many Dutch customers, attracted by the the high interest rates on savings the bank offered. After the collapse, savers who had less than 100 thousand in their accounts got their money back immediately through a deposit guarantee scheme. Those with larger amounts in their Icelandic bank accounts had to wait much longer. In the next few days the last 15 percent of the 25 million euros will be paid.
