Rash of burglaries over Christmas holidays keeps investigators busy

The police once again had their hands full with burglaries over the Christmas days. Numerous burglars were arrested across the Netherlands between December 24th and December 26th and many more burglaries were reported, though there was not a remarkable increase in the number of burglaries compared to the same period in previous years. There is always a spike in the number of burglaries over Christmas, as many people are away from their homes for extended periods of time. The police advised people to leave their lights and radios on when they go out, to give their homes a lived-in look, but this did not work on all burglars. In the province of Zeeland 13 burglaries or attempted burglaries were reported to the police over the feast days. In the police district De Markiezaten there were 11. Three burglars were caught and arrested in a house in Krommenie on Friday and another three in Purmerend. In the city of Groningen the police caught a man climbing out of a houseboat and arrested him. In Borger a 27 year old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary. A police officer was slightly injured while arresting two burglars in Roosendaal on Christmas Eve. There were also burglaries in utrecht, Amersfoort, Utrecht and Woerden, but with no arrests so far.
