Man who threw votive at royals confessed to police dept. vandalism
Erwin Lensink, the man who spent two years in jail for throwing a votive at the royal family on Prinsjesdag 2010, confessed to smashing a window of the police station in Dinxperlo.
The man wrote his confession in an email to De Gelderlander. He did the same last week, that time confessing to smashing the windows of the Villa Mondriaan museum.
A spokesperson for the police confirmed the vandalism at the police station on Raadhuisstraat on Monday night. "A window was smashed and paint thrown against the wall", the spokesperson said to the newspaper, but would not comment on whether Lensink is a suspect. "Due to privacy we never say anything about the identity of a suspect. We are investigating, but no arrests have been made."
The vandalism at Villa Mondriaan is also still under investigation, with no arrests.
Erwin Lensink became known to the police when he threw a votive at the Golden Carriage on Prinsjesdag 2010. Then Queen Beatrix, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima were in the carriage at the time. He was sentenced to two years in prison for that crime. After his release he had an argument with the police because they wouldn't believe his claim of being watched, he was banned from a bar, was in custody in Germany for threatening a woman and several times tried to be elected as a provincial and municipal politician.
